A Quick Chicago Getaway

I love spontaneous trips and my husband surprised me with this one two weekends ago. We are serious trip planners and do a ton of research before we head out to a new destination. We want to see and do it all! I think we accomplished a lot in a one night stay in Chicago.

We took the 7am flight from Nashville to Chicago and landed in Chicago approx. 9am. Took a cab to our beautiful hotel the Conrad Hilton

Dropped the bags and headed out to find some coffee (much needed after waking up at 5am!) We found Intelligentsia Coffee and I loved watching their unique brewing method. Great coffee and a great find!

Not to waste any time, we got our coffee to go and headed out to Michigan Avenue. Magnificent only begins to describe the seemingly endless avenue of shops. I was in shopping heaven. Since our time was limited, we bypassed any shops that we have in Nashville and conquered Michigan Avenue in a few short hours.

No trip to Chicago would be complete without having some deep dish pizza! We headed to Uno. Wow! It was the best pizza I have ever had!

Then it was off to Wrigley. The Cubs were playing the Cardinals. Side Note: We tend to plan our vacations to coincide with sporting events.

All around the stadium are rooftop decks where you can watch the game. They usually include all you can eat and drink. That sounds like an awesome way to watch a sporting event!

We didn’t have tickets to the game (or a rooftop deck) but there were tons of packed out sports bars around the stadium. We quickly found a bar full of loud Cubs fans and enjoyed the rest of game. After the game (Cubs won!) we found a fan area outside Wrigley. We stopped to listen to the band and we were hooked! Rod Tuffcurls and the Benchpress (LOVE the name) is my new favorite party band. http://rodtuffcurls.com/

The BEST part is they say “friends” after every song! I was meant to discover them!

Sadly, we had to leave Wrigley. We headed to Navy Pier to get some sightseeing in before dinner. It was super touristy but I know it’s a “must do” for your first visit to Chicago.

We went back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We went to Hub 51 and the food was great! Side note: Ladies dress up for this one! Heels and high fashion are a must do to fit in with the crowd.

After dinner we headed back to hotel. We had an early flight the next morning back to Nashville. I love Chicago and can’t wait to go back! (we are already thinking family Christmas trip this year!?!?)

Happy Shopping!
